The Collective

The Actor’s Place (TAP) Collective is a unified group of artists (actors, directors, playwrights, etc.) with a shared artistic vision and a common goal. Collective members will concentrate on developing the group into a working theatre company capable of bringing a new level of production excellence to the Central Jersey theatre scene. The weekly member lab session will be ongoing and structured to accommodate artists with a strong desire to be a part of this type of company. TAP Collective will foster the development of actors, directors, new works as well as older pieces, while embracing each member’s talent and uniqueness, wherever they are currently in their personal development. This cohesive unit’s use of a shared approach to the development and production of works will ultimately position TAP Collective at the forefront of performing arts production and training in this area.
The shared approach is accomplished through members’ regular participation in a 3-hour on-going, weekly lab ($10 minimum to space rental) led by Roy Barry, Danielle Barry and guest instructors. The combination of Roy's 25 years as a working actor, his personal experience with the teachings of Lee Strasberg, Sanford Meisner, Warren Robertson, David LeGrant, Eric Morris to name a few; and Danielle's 14 years as a college instructor as well as her own mentoring by Uta Hagen in the Hagen approach, is more than adequate to provide the foundation necessary for the development of such a flexible, trained ensemble. The artistic direction of TAP as well as TAP Collective will reflect the founders’ belief that there is no one universal technique or method that MUST be utilized by artists. However, although a functioning, disciplined actor eventually develops his own way of working, this can only happen after securing a firm, basic foundation. The artistic goal of The Collective is to provide this firm foundation to its members and incorporate this learned way of working to bring honesty, truthfulness, integrity and creative freedom to its future works, new and old.
